Ouran Highschool Host Club was one of the first anime I watched on DVD, and I had no idea at the time that you could go to the main menu and change the language from English to Japanese (plus 10 idiot points). So throughout the whole season, I heard the English version of the theme song 'Sakura KISS,' and was left wondering when the heck the awesome Japanese version that all my friends enjoyed so much was going to show up. Needless to say, I learned a lot about the differences between dubs and subs on this occasion. And main menu features.
As it is, the Japanese version of 'Sakura KISS' as sung by Chieko Kawabe is one reason to make that switch in the menu. I have nothing against the English version, but... well, yeah, if you want maximum potential poppy fun and cuteness, the original is the way to go. As a general rule, I like things kept in their native format, whether they be opening songs, dialogue, or character names, because they are the closest representation of what the individuals nearest to the original manga decided upon as the best fit. Agree or disagree? Give the two tracks a listen and decide for yourself!
Whatever the language, these guys will still make you KISS KISS FALL IN LOVE |
