Nothing tugs at the heart strings quite like Loveless. Looking at the show on the surface, many may be fooled into thinking that the story will most likely unfold to be a touching coming-of-age romance for our jaded hero Ritsuka and his devoted love interest Soubi. But add in a less-than-innocent world, rampant betrayal, a psychotic brother hell-bent on monopolizing the target of his twisted affections at any cost, and Soubi's less than glimmering past and you have yourself quite the tearjerking show. Hikita Kaori's closing theme offering 'Michiyuki' is the perfect compliment to this atmosphere, and if you're not already feeling the heaviness of the show from watching an episode, this song hits it home at the credits. The vocals play out slow and sorrowful, as if in mourning, and a fitting emotion considering how each character of Loveless has plenty of things to mourn as they try and find security and love in a world where purity is hard to come by.
They make a good team, but their relationship is founded on tragedy and loss of innocence. |
