This closing track to the Devil May Cry anime performed by Rin Oikawa has been a particularly special track to me over the past few months. I will be graduating from a university in my home state this December, and moving to an entirely new location to attend grad school by next fall with no intention of returning to my native area for more than just visits home. As someone who holds a lot of importance to my relationship with my family and friends, going to a new place and having distance exist in these connections is a daunting thought. But as the lyrics of 'I'll be Your Home' say, home is a place inside your soul, not a physical location, and as long as you have faith in the people and things you love, you carry home in the feelings you have for them and the feelings they have for you.
And as far as Devil May Cry goes, this song serves as a evocative shift from the grit and gore of Dante's profession, and reminds that these connections exist for him as well, especially when we recall the difficult nature of his past and his own half-devil ancestry. Whenever it comes on at the end of an episode, it gives me the chills in the best way possible.
Even Dante has precious things that give greater meaning to his devil hunting career. |
